To see and be seen
"C to the power of three was a kind of professional self-check for me," says film producer Magdalena Brix. In the creative industry coaching C hoch 3 Lower Austria, she gained a new perspective on her own company and developed tools for creative people in a cooperation project.
The invitation to C hoch 3 came at the right moment, says the Lower Austrian today. In her second year of self-employment, she was confronted with many questions: "Am I still on my way? What has changed? What haven't I thought about at all? "I wasn't positionless, but I just wanted to check if I was where I wanted to be at the start." So she took the six days of coaching between January and September 2013 as time out to question her own positioning.
Two years earlier she had founded Brix Productions in Klosterneuburg with her husband Werner. From her previous job Magdalena Brix was very familiarwith calculation and planning and she knew how the entertainment industry ticks internationally. In her new company she also took over the areas of content development and editing. "It's just fucking fun!" When she was asked about your offer at the time, she said "image and advertising films". Today the answer is: "Communication agency for moving image."
Focus and wide angle
Through the feedback from the speakers and participants of the coaching, the entrepreneur noticed the difference between self-perception and the perception of others. As if through a wide-angle lens, she suddenly saw the radius of her offer as larger, more holistic. At the same time she became aware of her own resources from which her clients could also benefit: a network of experts as well as experience in the areas of marketing, coaching, directing and leading people in front of the camera. "If someone approaches me today, I immediately ask them about the overall strategy," says Brix about her new position. "If design is desired, text, PR or strategic planning is needed, we have enough know-how and resources. We are also scalable in the film team. Our portfolio has become larger and we are much more diversified".
"Something you're not without each other."
The convinced team worker also brought her own skills to bear in a cooperation project of the Lower Austrian C hoch 3 Coaching. Together with the graphic designers Markus Niederschick and Magdalena Bhatia, she developed the basics for "Greller Propeller". This toolbox for entrepreneurs in the creative industries contained a set of self-tests, checks, practical examples in a wide variety of areas - from communication and craftsmanship to self-image and questions of sustainability.
The commitment was great, but in the end the "Bright Propeller" lacked the financial thrust to take off successfully. As a benefit, the film producer nevertheless took tools such as business canvas and the cooperation possibilities of the Austria-wide network with her. "For me, cooperation means offering people who are top performers the opportunity to buy in and offer their services from a single source. One plus one is then more. Something you can't have without each other."
Shortly after the coaching, cooperation partner Magdalena Bhatia and her graphic studio moved into Brix Productions. "We work together as needed," says Magdalena Brix, "but basically it's about community, exchange, feedback. We're similar, we're down-to-earth and we're entrepreneurs.
That this entrepreneurial awareness is not a matter of course among creative people was often observed by her in discussions with C hoch 3 participants for her film about creative industry coaching C hoch 3. "Before C to the power of three, I never saw my company as a business. Now I know it," says one interviewee, summing up a significant benefit of the coaching.
