Can you remember the first time you thought about money, spending and saving? Or even how you learned how to handle money? In our case, it was learning by doing. The new savee box from Tobias Schaller is designed to prevent this uncertainty and helps children aged 3 to 10 to learn how to handle money in a playful and, above all, sustainable way.
The "piggy bank" of the future
The savee box is an innovation in which the creative industry meets technology and financial education. With various educational content and games, savee accompanies children aged 3 to 10 on their way to a conscious approach to money. For example, 3-year-olds can learn what the many different round coins and colorful bills mean and experienced 7-year-olds can learn more about money that cannot be touched.
From patented money recognition, which recognizes the value of inserted coins and bills, to smart networking with IoT devices and the direct integration of a bank account, the savee Box will offer numerous innovative features that support the learning process. Not only that, parents will also be involved via a dedicated app and can track their child's learning progress.Â
But how do you present a rather dry topic like finance to children? This is where the creative industries play a decisive role. With their innovative power and artistic expertise, creative minds create unique solutions that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing - as in the case of the savee Box. The touch display and LED light also ensure easy interaction and visual feedback, while the speaker offers additional support with a holistic sound design.
The future financial experts are accompanied by the digital avatar Boxi, who grows with them during the process (as well as the entire graphic interface and sound design), gives the children ideas and acts as a sparring partner for all money-related topics. Of course, everything is playful, colorful and age-appropriate. A series of audio books in which Boxi and his friends teach children about financial education as naturally as eating breakfast is also to be realized in the future.
Children and parents as developers
To test and ensure the success of the savee Box, Tobias first of all initiated tests of the digital "savings box" with the target group - children and their parents - in a toy store. The positive feedback from this practical test encouraged the development of a functional prototype.Â
Supported by experts from various fields, in-kind investors such as the phantom angels INCHSTONE and Walter Sereinig and funding such as the aws "Creative Impact Prototype Development", important connections to sparring partners from the finance, audio, hardware, software, legal, etc. industries were established in order to initiate steps towards the market launch of the savee Box.

The importance of creative economy-based services in the introduction of new technological products cannot be overemphasized. On June 8, a usability test with the first version of the functional prototype was presented at TEDxKlagenfurt. The on-site testing allowed valuable feedback to be collected, which in turn will be incorporated into the development of the next iteration of savee Box. In addition to detailed discussions and live interaction, interested parties were asked to complete a short questionnaire. 100% would allow a 3-10 year old to use the savee Box. Exemplary feedback on the first impression: e.g. "Very good tool for children, arouses interest" or "Intuitive access to the topic of money/finances/saving for children, good first contact and very appealing because it is also very playful".
