New OMC Report: Towards Gender Equality in the Cultural and Creative Sectors

The report focuses on the role culture plays in promoting gender equality and, in particular, on how gender equality can be achieved in the cultural and creative sector (CCS) and the obstacles that need to be overcome, as well as how the role of culture can be used to promote equality. Although women are well represented in CCS, both as artists and as cultural practitioners, they face structural discrimination and a number of difficulties. As the main obstacles, the report has looked in depth at stereotypes, sexual harassment, under-representation in leadership and decision-making positions and at the top of important and large cultural and arts organisations, disadvantages in access to resources, the labour and arts market, and the existing income disparities.
