The business survey on the economic situation of the creative industries

In spring and autumn, representative surveys are conducted to determine the expectations of creative industries companies in Austria with regard to their economic development over the next 12 months. The Creative Industries Barometer is prepared as a special evaluation of the Economic Barometer Austria by the Department of Economic and Trade Policy of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, which, in addition to the analysis of the economic development of the creative industries themselves, allows for a comparison of the sector with the overall economy.

Autumn 2019: Creative industries expect more positive development than the overall economy in the coming months

The expectations of the companies in the Creative Industries Barometer suggest an above-average positive development of the creative industries in the coming months compared to the slower expansion in the overall economy. While it can be seen that the peak has been passed in the overall economy, expectations regarding the order situation, turnover and employment are reaching record levels in the creative industries. The optimistic export turnover expectations of creative professionals are also positive, as they show that Austrian companies in the creative industries are establishing themselves on an international level and are thus taking advantage of additional opportunities.

The creative industries are an important economic factor for Austria and create growth and jobs even in times when economic momentum is generally slowing down. For this reason, the next federal government should also consistently pursue the implementation of the creative industries strategy of the BMDW. In particular, this is also necessary because of the central role of the creative industries as a source of impetus for innovations in other areas as well.
