FROG 2026

How can art and gaming create new forms of cultural participation? The international conference FROG 2026 invites researchers, cultural institutions, artists, game designers, and developers to share their perspectives on the theme “PLAYING ART.”

With its 20th edition, the FROG Conference is opening a new chapter: For the first time, the renowned event will take place at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna. With a focus on “PLAYING ART,” the conference explores how art can be made tangible, accessible, and participatory through playful formats. At the same time, it examines how games themselves function as independent forms of cultural and artistic expression.

We are seeking contributions from both research and practice that address topics such as playful knowledge transfer in museums, games as an art form, digital cultural heritage, participation, inclusion, or collaboration between cultural institutions and the games industry. Submissions may be presented as an in-person talk or as a video presentation. The conference language is English, and participation is free of charge. FROG 2026 will take place from November 20 to 22, 2026, at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, with the opening day on November 20 dedicated to an accompanying series of game jams.
