Call for Applications for the Elisabeth Büttner Scholarship for Film Culture
Application deadline: Oct. 31 | 5 scholarships of up to €2,000 per month | Funding for film culture, film history, and curatorship
The Federal Ministry of Housing, Art, Culture, Media, and Sports will once again award the Elisabeth Büttner Fellowship for Film Culture in 2026. The grant is intended for curators, archivists, programmers, scholars, and educators whose projects contribute to Austrian film culture.
Funding is available for projects in the areas of film preservation, film heritage, film programming, and curatorship, including research projects, program series, exhibitions, publications, and educational initiatives. Projects may be carried out in Austria or abroad and should engage in-depth with Austrian film history and film theory.
Five scholarships will be awarded, each lasting up to six months. The grant amounts to 1,500 euros per month for projects in Germany and 2,000 euros per month for projects abroad.
Submission deadline: October 31, 2026, 11:59 p.m.
Further information and submissions are handled via the BMWKMS online form. Applicants must be Austrian citizens or permanent residents of Austria. Applications from students are not accepted, with the exception of PhD students.
