Messaging marketing 2026: Which channel really works?

You will be seen on the lock screen. In the email inbox, skimmed over at best. This difference explains why messaging marketing is once again at the top of the agenda for many marketing managers in 2026. There are three channels to choose from and they work in fundamentally different ways:

SMS is the classic. Works on any cell phone, 160 characters, no app, maximum reach. Getting started is very easy.

WhatsApp is the top dog in Austria and is used on a daily basis. Rich media, templates, conversational commerce, everything in the meta-ecosystem.

RCS is the up-and-comer. The successor to SMS, with images, buttons, carousels and Verified Sender. Since iOS 18 also on the iPhone and therefore with a reach that reaches the mass market.

For whom is this relevant? Marketing managers in the client environment, B2C and B2B. Regardless of whether they are currently examining whether messaging marketing makes sense at all, or whether SMS and WhatsApp are already in use and the next strategic step is imminent.

In the DMVÖ webinar on June 2, Rafał Nowak from HORISEN, a Swiss messaging technology specialist, will provide clarity. Specifically: an honest comparison matrix of the three channels in terms of reach, costs, effort, legal aspects and measurability. Practical cases from the international environment. The status of the Austrian rollout. First steps for beginners and migration paths for advanced users. Plus 15 minutes of live Q&A.
