Tips from the
creative experts
for solo self-employed people
“The concern about AI is palpable – but it offers the opportunity to break old patterns through transparency and a clear set of values and thus use creative skills to drive positive change in society.”
Don’t be afraid to share knowledge – use transparency as added value
Usethe opportunity to leave old habits such as secrecy behind you. Disclosing your process and sharing knowledge about AI tools can not only create trust, but also open up new sources of income and acquisition opportunities.
Price transparency – making your own value visible
Transparencyin pricing creates an understanding of the value of your work and prevents you from selling yourself short. AI can optimize processes and enable new offers that were previously impossible to implement for budget reasons. Clear communication about your services and your value makes it easier to position yourself on the market and strengthens the relationship with your customers in the long term. You will be perceived as reliable and create a basis for fair negotiations.
Don’t be afraid of idealism – values as the basis for a strong brand
Define clear principles and visions that reflect your stance on social and environmental issues. A value-oriented brand helps you to find customers who share your views or want to be inspired by your attitude. This idealism is not a risk, but an opportunity to stand out authentically and build long-term, valuable partnerships.
“New technologies such as AI, AR and VR offer enormous opportunities, but they require active engagement, openness to collaboration and clear communication with customers in order to create realistic expectations and integrate innovations in a meaningful way.”
Engage with new technologies
Investtime to understand the basics of AI, AR and VR, even if you don’t use them directly. This will allow you to better assess their potential and use external expertise if necessary.
Build and use yournetwork
Work with other professionals to close gaps in your knowledge or equipment. Community events, workshops or online platforms can be a good way to make contacts.
Proactivecommunication with your customers
Informyour customers early on about the effort, limitations and possibilities of modern technologies. This creates trust and sets realistic expectations.
“The transformation can only really be mastered together!”
Don’t shy away from trial and error – try it out
GenerativeAI can make your life easier and take your work to a new level. The key is to experiment boldly: Test tools and approaches, play with different applications and find out what works for you. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes – you’ll learn from every test and get a little closer to making the best use of AI.
Developsolutions together with your customers
MakeAI a joint project: develop products or solutions in dialog with your customers. This allows you to meet their needs precisely and at the same time show how innovative and creative you are with the new possibilities. This collaboration not only strengthens the relationship, but also ensures that AI is used in a meaningful and practical way.
“We’ve always done it this way” – let go of this way of thinking
Toexploit the full potential of generative AI, say goodbye to old ways of thinking. Leave traditional ways of working behind and be open to new possibilities. With AI, you can revolutionize processes, find creative solutions and make many things easier for yourself – but only if you are prepared to leave familiar ways behind and try out new things.
“Emotional intelligence is the characteristic that most helps creative solo self-employed people to survive and develop positively in the age of AI. This is also reflected in their market and branding strategies. Creativity, personal action, empathy, commitment, authentic appearance, customer relations, active knowledge management, willingness to innovate – these are the keys to the success of solo self-employed people.”
Learn and integrate AI tools
Investtime in learning AI tools that can automate processes and make them more efficient. Test new tools to understand their functionality and strategically integrate them into existing workflows to save time and achieve better results.
Build on customer relationships
Strongcustomer loyalty is the key to long-term success. Listen actively, understand your customers’ needs and offer solutions that create real added value. Regular communication and personal interactions strengthen trust and promote loyalty.
Salesfirst, marketing follows
Focus first on sales and on understanding the needs of the target group. These insights should form the basis for the marketing strategy to make messages more precise and effective. Sales and marketing should work hand in hand to achieve maximum impact.
“My main takeaway is that solo self-employed people are currently affected by many changes at the same time and that formats for mutual exchange and networking are therefore particularly valuable in order to deal with these changes together and strengthen the resilience of the industry.”
Shaping the pressure for change positively
Thepressure for change due to AI is currently very high, but it is also important to keep the changes in the ecological and social areas on the radar, as there is a lot going on here, both from the customer side and from the legislator.
Optimize your own impact
To remain relevant as a solo self-employed person in the future, it is important to ask yourself the question: How can I improve my social and environmental impact? The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a good point of reference here. My recommendation to you is to take an hour to think about which 1-3 goals you can contribute to as a solo self-employed person and what concrete steps you want to take to achieve them. Even small steps count and make a difference!
“Solo self-employed people in particular are both pioneers of the current transformation needs of the economy and are themselves affected by enormous changes. It is courageous and important to embrace social, digital and ecological change with your business model and support your customers in the process.”
Don’t be afraid of a sharp positioning
Clearpositioning and possibly even specialization are sometimes unbeatable. If you outline unique combinations and clear visions as a solo self-employed person, you will steer the course. This builds on a basic prerequisite: Lifelong learning.
Together it works better
Cooperationsand local creative centers are particularly important for solo self-employed people. The opportunities that arise from clever additions to your own business model seem almost endless and offer a lot of potential. Cross-industry collaboration in particular opens up new freedoms and opportunities.
Valuingchangeand consciously selling
Everythingis change. Styles, fashions and technologies shape everyday working life. You need “transformation literacy”, i.e. the ability to develop new ways of thinking and methods to solve complex problems for your customers. This requires a combination of technical knowledge, social intelligence and a willingness to question traditional approaches.
“Innovation favors the brave, which means seizing opportunities and breaking new ground.”
Empathize
Try to put yourself in your customers’ shoes. What do they really need? How can they take a good next step that will really help them move forward?
Prototype
Don’t spend too long tossing your ideas back and forth on the soundtrack, but develop initial prototypes as quickly and early as possible. This will give you a better understanding of your results yourself and in collaboration with others. And it’s fun!
Think about the future of our planet
We only have one planet, and it is the basis for all living beings. We should act accordingly!

Here are some additional Tips from creative professionals
“Particularly in phases of transformation, it is important to look at your own range of services from an external perspective. This step is particularly difficult for solo freelancers, as they are often strongly focused on their own day-to-day work. Customer surveys, tools such as customer journey maps and simple buyer personas can help to gain this external perspective as a solo self-employed person. It is essential to be aware of the limits of your own resources. It’s often not about doing everything yourself, but concentrating on what you enjoy doing. This is the only way to remain authentic in your interactions with customers and focus on the aspects that make you special.”
Especially in technical areas, it is essential to know your own limits and call in external experts if necessary.
Forexample, if you have neither technical nor design talent, it is a sensible investment to have your own website or flyer professionally designed instead of trying to do it yourself.
There is an online tool that offers a solution for almost every problem.
TheSoftware-as-a-Service (SaaS) sector has penetrated almost every industry in recent decades. Whether it’s a booking tool, design tool or accounting software – the solution to a problem is often just a Google search away. Thanks to monthly subscription models, the investment costs also remain low.
The use of artificial intelligence is versatile and is not limited to the creation of texts.
AI can serve solo self-employed people as a partner and consultant by analyzing service offers, correcting texts, checking the feasibility of ideas and much more. AI can be a valuable support, especially for solo self-employed people who have to overcome many challenges on their own.
“Before you get lost in all the many and often small-scale communication tasks – focus on what sets me apart, on the contribution I make and on the customers I want to address. Because this requires clarity so that product design and communication can be successful.”
Start with yourself
Before you engage with potential customers, you should be aware of your own vision. Ask yourself: Why do you do what you do? What is your mission? A clear self-image will help you to appear authentic and target the people who will benefit from your offering.
Understand your customers with personas
Personasare fictitious but detailed profiles of your target customers. They help you to better understand their needs, challenges and expectations. Remember: customers don’t buy products or services, they buy solutions to their problems. A well-developed persona allows you to target your offers accordingly.
Develop the customer journey
The customer journey describes the entire path that a persona goes through – from the first perception of a problem to long-term customer loyalty. By going through this process step by step, you can recognize where you can better pick up, accompany and inspire your customers. This will give you valuable ideas for optimizing your offering.
“No one else is better equipped to tackle the current social, economic and digital challenges than the solo self-employed. Why? Because it has always been part of our everyday lives to deal with change and harness it for our needs. Because we are used to thinking and acting creatively. So be brave. Try new things, break new ground, exchange ideas with different people to get new inspiration. This results in creativity, innovation and transformation for the benefit of all.”
Define your value
”How much is your work worth? A question that is often difficult to answer as a solo self-employed person. Many of us are in “professions” where there are no rules to measure the value of our work. So let’s ask the question differently: “How much are you worth to yourself, how much is your creativity worth to you, how much is your time worth to you? That is the yardstick by which you should measure the value of your offers and services. And it is precisely this value that needs to be conveyed as clearly as possible when communicating with your customers.
The story makes the difference
No matterwhat industry you’re in, it’s always about writing an exciting, clear, easy-to-understand and, above all, compact story about what your offers are and what makes them so unique. It’s about defining your personal form of communication and mediation with which you can reach your target groups well. And which tools you want to use for this. Digital and social media, AI, a website, a newsletter, a blog, a database or a video portal. The possibilities are endless. Be brave, try out everything that sparks your interest and get support. …. But even more importantly, talk to those around you, friends, family members and your customers. Ask them for their opinion. What do they need, what do they want, how do they want to be informed, etc.? This is the quickest and most effective way to create a good story. Because it’s YOUR story.
Authenticity – what is it?
Whatall solo self-employed people in all sectors have in common is a passion for what they do. The quality of their work and what they offer is important, but it is their passion that makes them unique and authentic. This is where your greatest potential lies and needs to be developed. Ask yourself the question every day: “What makes me authentic in my job, what makes me unique? Through this simple exercise, you will quickly develop an intuitive awareness of what resources you already have NOW and what opportunities (AI, social media, networks, further training, etc.) you can use to expand them.
“Solo freelancers face the challenge of making their uniqueness visible. In an increasingly digital and competitive world, crystal-clear positioning is the key to standing out. With a precise focus on your offering and an authentic story, you can clearly communicate to customers why they are exactly right for you. This is how solo freelancers can build trust and loyalty. It is crucial that you succeed in translating your own vision and values into a clear and tangible message. Solo freelancers in particular must have the courage to turn themselves into a brand: Clarity, consistency in the message and consistency in appearance.”
Sharpen your positioning – Become a brand with a clear message
In a market that is characterized by incredible diversity and very individual approaches, it is important to clearly define your uniqueness. Ask yourself: “What makes me and my offering unique? What can I offer that my customers can’t get anywhere else?” A concise positioning means clearly identifying your strengths and around 5 values and then consistently communicating them to the outside world – both online and offline. Create a simple “positioning formula” that gets to the heart of your essence. This statement should be recognizable in all your communication channels (website, social media, conversations).
Tell your story – emotions create trust
Peopledon’t just buy products or services – they buy emotions, a good feeling, closeness and trust. Share your personal story: Why do you do what you do? What inspires you? What values drive you? Authentic storytelling allows you to create a deeper connection with your target group and stand out from the crowd. Share your story on your website or in social media posts, e.g. with before-and-after examples, customer experiences or insights into your day-to-day work. Avoid technical terms and speak in the language of your customers.
Focusyour offering – less is more
Many solo entrepreneurs offer a very wide range of services for fear of losing potential customers. However, an overly broad offering can appear confusing and lead to your target group not clearly recognizing where your particular added value lies. Focus on your core competencies and the needs of your ideal customers. Fewer offers often mean greater awareness and higher quality, so analyze your existing customers and identify which services are most in demand and give them the most pleasure. From this, develop a “lighthouse offer” – a core product or service that represents your brand. You can offer additional services as a supplement, but the focus should be clear and easy to understand.
“Solo self-employed and small structured companies are faced with the challenge of transforming their own services and products while keeping an eye on the changes on the customer side. There are often many balls in the air at the same time! I recommend that everyone seek support from creative experts who specialize in change processes and rely on exchange and collaboration across industries. Mastering complex situations and juggling many balls is easier together!”
Network
It’s time to form bonds! Network with others in your industry and potential professions who can recommend you.
Visibility
Don’t confuse private and personal online – and therefore dare to show yourself and your achievements! Quick check before posting: Does it nurture my personal brand? Does it relate to my services?
Communication
Less is more – but do it consistently! Decide on your communication channels, they don’t have to be all of them. Playfully fill the appropriate ones with your stories – let your potential customers feel your energy and enthusiasm for your effective work!
“Business in transition means constantly evolving and highlighting what makes our offerings special through authentic storytelling. By using digital media strategically and authentically, firmly integrating environmental responsibility into our business model, being regularly visible online and building strong networks, we achieve sustainable business success and actively contribute to positive social change.”
Ecological responsibility and social change
People’s growing sensitivity to physical and environmental awareness makes it necessary to integrate sustainability as an integral part of our business model. Regional, organic products and environmentally friendly practices increasingly offer a competitive advantage.
Network and cooperations
Maintain a regular exchange with colleagues from your field of work and, above all, other industries. This will help you build a strong network that not only provides you with support during the often lonely phases of self-employment, but also offers space for mutual recommendations and creative, successful collaborations.
Creative use of digital media
Experimentwith social media, podcasts, blogs and develop a consistent online presence that reflects your expertise. You can define a few topics that make your personal brand more approachable and authentic and help you to avoid posting randomly. Take inspiration from other creators and choose content, formats and trends that emphasize your business and your core competencies. Attention: Show yourself personally, but not privately.
